A lot has happened in Oregon over the past 45 years and during that time Len Bergstein has been involved in many of the state’s most complex public policy issues and intense political campaigns. 

As president of NORTHWEST STRATEGIES, INC. since 1981, Len specializes in state and local issues throughout Oregon -- advising companies and Sovereign Tribal Nations how to win using the tools of information and persuasion. Client engagements have included the region’s most sensitive issues: environmental regulations; healthcare delivery/insurance systems; agri-business; financial services; Indian gaming; business development; land use/project development; brownfield clean-up/siting; alternative energy projects (solar, wave, wind and methane digester); housing; hospitality; and transportation. To serve clients’ special needs, Len has also directed complex government relations assignments in Washington State, California and Washington D.C. 

Len is the political analyst for KGW (Channel 8), and frequently provides political commentary for print and radio news media around the state. Additionally, Len is regularly invited to speak on political and business topics to Northwest audiences. 

A native New Yorker who made Oregon his home in 1972, Bergstein’s earlier career in Oregon included running successful statewide political campaigns for candidates and ballot measures and serving as a Vista volunteer attorney with Multnomah County Legal Aid. While attending NYU Law School, Len enjoyed teaching at a public middle school and a private residential treatment center near New York City. Len is a graduate of Wesleyan University (Middletown Connecticut) and NYU Law School. Currently, Len is an inactive member of the Oregon State Bar.

Bergstein has supplemented his professional schedule with service on numerous boards, commissions and community service organizations. Len served on the Board of the Oregon Business Association [OBA], the Chair of the non-profit Oregon Sports Authority, is a member of the Portland Business Alliance and served on the study committee on Portland Water and Sewer Utilities for the Portland City Club. Additionally, Len served on the Board of Tuality Healthcare, as Board Officer of the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, Programs Chairman of the Portland City Club, Board Member of the Oregon Children’s Theatre Board, publicity chairman of the United Negro College Fund, as a volunteer on Governor Kulongoski’s Hunger Task Force, Chair of Portland Mayor Katz’ Major League Baseball Commission and as a member of the Executive Committee of the Spirit Mountain Development Board and executive staff to the Spirit Mountain Community Fund. 

Len is married to Betsy Weston Bergstein. Len and Betsy live in a Portland neighborhood and have three children (David, Mikhael and Danelle) and has four grandchildren.
